It’s been an exciting year so far on the National Nature Reserves (NNRs) we look after in the Highlands, as we’ve been using remote cameras to get a better look at some of the nesting birds.

At Corrieshalloch Gorge NNR we’ve been watching ravens. The ravens here have had another successful year. Our wildlife camera on the suspension bridge provides a superb view and a wonderful opportunity to catch a really close-up view of these great mountain birds. The birds have now successfully fledged and are able to fly but you can still see them in the nest on our YouTube clips.

Our YouTube footage of pine martens on Beinn Eighe NNR was taken last year but we hope to capture more this year. It’s always a pleasure to photograph or film these beautiful animals in their natural habitat amongst the magnificent native pinewoods on the reserve. Pine martens are omnivorous, and they eat a variety of foods, including carrion, small mammals, invertebrates, fruit and nuts. We will try to entice them, with fruit and nuts, into an area where we will be able to photograph them 24/7 and hopefully get some footage which will be a joy to watch.  We aim to stream the pictures back to our Visitor Centre where you will be able to see them as they go about their daily business.

Craigellachie NNR is just a short walk from the centre of Aviemore, and home to a resident pair of Peregrine falcons. They are currently sitting on 3 eggs and should be due to hatch any day now. A short clip of these magnificent birds is on our YouTube channel.
